قال الإمام أحمد رحمه الله: لا تقلدني ولا تقلد مالكًا ولا الشافعي ولا الأوزاعي ولا الثوري وخذ من حيث أخذوا
Imām Aḥmad May Allah have mercy on him said: “Do not blindly follow me, nor Mālik, nor al-Shāfiʿī, nor al-Awzāʿī, nor al-Thawrī. Rather, take from where they took.”
The scholars have clarified that taqlīd (following a scholar without knowing the evidence) is allowed for those who are unable to derive rulings directly. At the same time, blind partisanship that rejects clear evidence is blameworthy. The balanced path is to respect the scholars, benefit from their schools, and give precedence to authentic evidence when it becomes clear.
